How to Install Thesis Awesome Skins

The process of installing our Thesis Skins is pretty much similar to installing Thesis Theme itself. The only difference is that skins files /custom/ folder, should be uploaded via FTP to the Thesis Theme folder. (replace it with the /custom-sample/ folder).

How to install Thesis Skins (step by step)

Follow these simple steps to get your skin installed properly:

1- Login to your Thesis Awesome account and download the skin.

The download file should include the following:

  • Skin files /custom/ folder.
  • Thesis Options file, usually has .DAT extension
  • Other instructions and documentation files

2- Unzip the downloaded file on your computer

Use your FTP client to upload the /custom/ folder inside your Thesis Theme folder (Override the old /custom/ folder files):

3- Check file permissions

Once you are done with uploading the /custom/ folder to your server, open it and check file permissions like the first time you’ve installed Thesis Theme.

[optional but highly recommended] If you’d like to give Thesis the ability to auto-crop thumbnail images for you, then you’ll want to change the permissions of your/custom/cache folder to 775.

4- Upload .DAT options

Now! Go to your WordPress admin dashboard, find the Thesis > Manage Options > menu, and upload the “Options File .DAT” file that is included in the skin zip download file.

Note: Depending on your skin, this file could be the “All option”, or just the “Design Options”, so make sure to read this in the instructions that comes with the skin.

5- The final step (Save Skin Options)

Go to the Skin Options page (this should be located under Thesis menu), and click on the green Big Save button once. (This will save the default options and make things work on your blog).

That’s it!
